Knowing the Judgment of God
Message by: Leroy Surface

Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.   Romans 1:32

We have arrived.  Our nation has come to phase three of the judgment of God as revealed in the first chapter of Romans.  Actually we have been here for several years, but we are presently seeing a foretaste of more horrible things to come if America is not turned back to the Lord Jesus Christ.  We stand just short of the unmitigated wrath of God.  We were “weighed in the balances” during our last presidential elections, and we were “found wanting,” but, in His mercy, God gave us a “space for repentance.”  America has not repented, but I do see a few signs of an awakening among some in the “church.”  America will be weighed again in just a little over a year from now.  Perhaps we will be given a little more time to turn our nation, or perhaps not.  The “anti-God/anti-Christ” forces in America are in frenzy.  They hate our president for no more reason than he publicly professed Jesus Christ to be his Lord and Savior.  They hate the church of Jesus Christ.  For most of the decade of the nineties they exercised almost complete control over the course of America and brought us to the brink of destruction.  It will be a full generation before we can know the fullness of the extent that America was betrayed into the hands of our enemies during their administration.  Even now they have launched a full-scale attack against our president and the God fearing citizens of America.  Their goal is to take the reigns of our government once more in 2004.  If they are successful, America as we have known and loved her is doomed.  It is for this reason that we who serve the Lord Jesus Christ must return to the altars of God in intercession for our nation.  Only God can stop the anti-Christ forces that have attacked our nation from within.  This war can only be won at the altar, and it will be won if and when the “church” awakens from her sleep.  We must have that awakening.

The Judgment of the World

Recently I awoke one morning with these words in my heart, “Now is the judgment of this world.”  Immediately my mind went to the scripture in John 12:31 where Jesus spoke these words about a week before His death on the cross.  We all know of the coming day of judgment when every person will stand before God to give account for the deeds they have done in this body (Romans 14:10-12).  We know about the great white throne judgment where everyone not found written in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15).  What many perhaps do not know is that the world has been judged at least two times in the past, and is being judged even now as we speak.  The first judgment of the world was in the days before the flood.  God saw that the imagination of man’s heart was only wickedness continually, and “repented” that He had made man.  God judged them to be worthy of destruction by the waters of a great flood, and every living soul on earth perished that did not enter into the “ark.”  Only eight souls were saved in that day of God’s righteous judgment against that world.  The next time the world was judged was in the period before the crucifixion of Christ.  This was the “judgment” our Lord spoke of in John 12:31.

In the last two verses of the Old Testament, in Malachi 4:5-6, God “promised” to send Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.  “And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”  When asked about the “coming of Elijah the prophet,” Jesus said, speaking of John the Baptist, “And if ye will receive it, this is Elias (Elijah), which was for to come” (Matthew 11:11-14).  For over three years John had preached repentance to all the inhabitants of Judea and Jerusalem.  Multitudes gathered to his baptism at the river Jordan.  He was the “forerunner” of Jesus Christ.  The sole purpose of his ministry was to “prepare the way of the Lord,” to prepare the hearts of the people to receive their Messiah, Jesus.  Even though John was very popular with the people, he utterly failed in his mission, to “turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers.”  John introduced Jesus to the nation, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”  He continued, “This is He of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for He was before me.  And I knew Him not: but that He should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water...”  John 1:10:11 says of Jesus, “He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not.  He came unto His own, and His own received Him not.  But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.”  God’s chosen nation rejected the Son of God.  Nothing remained but the warning of the prophet Malachi, “…lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”

Throughout the history of the world, God has judged nations and kingdoms.  He judged Sodom and Gomorrah to be worthy of death by fire and brimstone because of their “abomination.”  Those great cities with all their inhabitants but three were turned to ashes in one day’s time.  The Babylonian kingdom was judged in the days of king Belshazzar (Daniel 5:1-31).  The king made a great feast for a thousand of his “Lords,” along with his wives and his concubines.  He called for the golden and silver vessels that were taken from the temple of God in Jerusalem to be brought to him, and they drank wine from them, and praised the gods of gold, silver, brass, and iron, wood and of stone.  In the midst of this drunken revelry, a hand appeared and began to write on these words on the palace wall, “Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin.”  Great fear gripped the heart of king Belshazzar, insomuch as his knees began to smite together.  The prophet Daniel was called to interpret the writing, and this was the message that was written to the king.

Mene:  God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.

Tekel:  Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.

Upharsin:  Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

That very night the great kingdom of Babylon fell before its enemies.  King Belshazzar was slain, and Darius the Median took the kingdom.

For the three years of Jesus ministry, Israel was being “weighed in the balances.”  They were, at the last, found “wanting.”  This is what Jesus spoke of as the judgment of the world.  If God’s chosen nation, Israel, whom God had repeatedly revealed Himself to, sent the prophets to, given the covenants of promise to; if this nation were to be judged guilty, then surely the whole world would be found guilty before God.  This is just what happened in those days just before Calvary.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;  Romans 1:16-18

The first six chapters of Romans are written as the transcript of a court trial.  Paul declares that the “righteousness (justice) of God” is revealed in the Gospel of Christ.  He also speaks of “the wrath of God” that is revealed from heaven against those “who hold the truth in unrighteousness.”  The first chapter of Romans begins the judgment of the world with the “indictment” of Israel, who is judged as “proxy” for the entire world.  As I read this, I realize that it could just as well be America on trial before God in this present day.  Most certainly America is being “weighed in the balances” even now, and will be for a short time in the future.  Our future as a nation depends on the righteous judgment of God which will surely be given in due time.

The Indictment

Romans 1:19 records the beginning of the indictment.  Imagine a prosecutor standing before almighty God, the judge of the world, pointing his finger in the face of America.  He is giving the “reasons for wrath,” beginning with these words: “Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them…”  We have partaken of every blessing of God as a nation because God “revealed Himself” to our founding fathers.  He gave them miraculous victories on the battlefield, victories that were won in the altar of prayer by General George Washington.  It was in that agonizing winter at Valley Forge when the freedom effort seemed hopeless that heaven was touched.  The victory that followed was as when Gideon defeated 135,000 Midianites with 300 men.  God had cut Gideon’s army down from 32,000 men to only 300 so Israel could never say, “Mine own hand hath saved me” (Judges 7:2).  Throughout our history as a nation it has been obvious that the hand of God has been with us as we arose to great power and glory against all odds.  It was in this generation that America began to “trust” in her own hand, that we alone are the source of our blessings.  We never lost a war until this generation, and the shame of Vietnam.

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.  Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.  Romans 1:21-23

Certainly this is the indictment of America.  We once knew God.  Our great nation was founded upon Christian principles by men who, for the most part, knew and feared God almighty, and trusted in His Son, Jesus Christ.  The pilgrims, who first came to this great land, came seeking freedom to worship God, while those who came seeking gold and treasure settled the nations around us.  This land was prospered above all others because we knew that both freedom and blessings were gifts from God almighty.  We knew God, we worshiped God, we honored Him in our institutions of higher education; we taught our children with the Bible, the Word of God, as their textbook.  “In God we trust” was our national motto.  As recently as 1954, our congress added the words “under God” to our pledge to the flag; “…one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”  Yet, we became a nation that “glorified Him not as God.”  We became “vain in our imaginations.”  Our colleges, many of which began as “Christian” schools of theology, began to deny the existence of God, and especially, the “Sonship” of Jesus Christ.  “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”  They opened the doors of America to every god, and we became an “idolatrous” nation.  We took the “Lord’s Prayer” out of our schools lest we offend the worshiper of some other god.  We threw the “Ten Commandments” out, thus robbing our children of the only valid foundation of morality.  Any mention of Jesus Christ as Lord and savior is viewed as a “criminal act” in our public schools, while His precious name being used in swearing and cursing is “protected speech.”  The scripture continues, “Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves.”  It is no wonder that sexual immorality is rampant in America beginning in this generation.  God has given us up to the lusts of the depraved heart.  Over fifty percent of the children born in this nation are born to unmarried parents.  The American conscience has been destroyed.  Shame has been taken away, but not through repentance and Godly sorrow, but by those who would destroy this great nation.  Our national sin was “idolatry,” in turning away from the living and true God and His Son, Jesus Christ.  God’s righteous judgment was to give our nation up to the uncleanness of immorality.

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.  For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.  Romans 1:25-27

The second national sin is to “change the truth of God into a lie.”  It is to twist and pervert the gospel of Christ until it has no power to save from sin: to bring in a “humanistic gospel” where man is the centerpiece instead of Christ.  A popular church sign says, “we believe in you.”  Is that the statement of their faith?  Nowhere does the scripture tell us to “believe in man,” but rather, “he that believeth on the Son…” (John 3:36, I John 5:10)  Recently the move in the churches has been to “give the people what they want.”  Many “super-churches” have been founded and built on that very foundation.  I heard the president of a “full gospel” bible college preach.  He said that God said, “If I was their pastor, I would give the people what they want.  If they want entertainment, I would give it to them.”  I wonder where in the scripture he found that verse?  He ended by exhorting some very Godly and elderly men of God to “let the youth have what they want.  If they want ‘rap,’ then bring in the ‘rapper’.”  I grieve for that movement, for the things I see coming to it in the near future if they heed, or even permit, that voice to continue educating their young men and women.

God’s righteous judgment against the “perversion” of His truth is to “give them up to vile affections.”  If anyone can read Romans 1:26-27 and not see that he speaks of homosexualism and lesbianism, it is because they are “willingly ignorant” (II Peter 3:3-7).  It is also amazing to note that “perversion” is not the national sin that brings the judgment of God; instead, it is God’s righteous judgment against the church and nation that turns away from God and perverts the truth of God.  America has become an immoral and perverted nation because she has turned away from the true God, and her “religion” has perverted the gospel of God’s Son, Jesus Christ.  These undeniable facts concerning the present state of our nation are offered as “indictments” against this nation as we are “weighed in the balances” of God’s justice.

The Judgment of God

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:  who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.  Romans 1:28-32

This text records the third phase of God’s judgment.  The indictment in this text is, “…they did not like to retain God in their knowledge…”  We have spoken previously of how America has “expelled” God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ from our public schools, courts, and all public places in America.  In nine of our western states, due to a recent ruling by the ninth circuit court, it is now “against the law” to say the words “under God” when pledging allegiance to the flag.  Remember the phrase, “…one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all?”  Take out “under God” and watch the nation be divided, liberty destroyed, and justice unable to enter the affairs of men.  The “indictment” of America is successful.  The righteous judgment of God is that our nation is given over to a “reprobate mind,” or, according to the Greek, a “worthless intellect.”  Out of that “reprobate national mind” our nation has been filled with every evil thing enumerated in the text; “all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful…”  Finally, the indictment emphatically declares that we “…know the judgment of God…”  America knows the “Ten Commandments,” even while rejecting them.  We know that God says He rejects modern America’s Godless lifestyle, and that those who do such things are “worthy of death.”  We know that “the wages of sin is death.”  This is the righteous judgment of God, and we are without excuse.  Our wonderful heritage reminds us.  Revisionists have tried to erase God and Jesus Christ from our history.  They have lied to the precious people of the black race about their “roots,” giving them another “god” and another “religion,” and even “inventing” a celebration to replace Christmas.  We know that these lies have divided us and destroyed us, yet we permit them to continue.  We have seen the American family destroyed; the minds of our youth destroyed by drugs and immorality.  The indictment continues, we “…not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”  In this phrase, which is the final indictment against our nation, is found that which will bring the wrath of God almighty against our land.  It is not only that we do these things, but we also “have pleasure in them that do them.”

First, we are “entertained” by the vilest of people.  Almost twenty years ago, Michael Landon received an academy award.  When receiving his award he made a statement to this effect; “The Academy Awards is a place where we Americans honor people of such character that we would not allow them in our homes to be around our children.”  Men and women, who consider themselves to be “moral,” that they would never be “unfaithful” to their spouse, are routinely entertained by movies depicting the grossest immorality that can be imagined.  They have set before their children an amoral lifestyle through the entertainment media.  The parents would never wish such a lifestyle upon their children, but they allow their tender minds to be flooded with the filth from Hollywood for hours a day through television movies.  It is no great wonder that the children grow up thinking gross immorality and perversion to be perfectly normal lifestyles, because they have been flooded with it from the crib until now.  By the time the average child reaches the age of ten he or she have witnessed many thousands of “murders,” acts of “adultery,” perversion etc.  Most are further entertained by video games in which they personally participate in violence, killing, cutting off heads, arms etc, boasting of the slaughter, receiving “credits” for their “successes.”  Such is the “sick” society we live in.

Second, and even more damning, the Greek word translated “have pleasure” in this text has the deeper meaning of “to approve in union with.”  It is this national “approval” that will bring the wrath of God against America if it is not changed.  It is not only that some Americans “do” these things, but also that our nation has made laws to “approve” them.

We Have Been Warned

Throughout this generation, beginning in the sixties, God has sent His prophets to warn America and to call her back to God in repentance.  For the large part the result has been the same as it was in ancient Israel.  Hear what the scriptures say concerning Israel in the time of her backsliding.  “Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.  And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:  But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.  Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand” (II Chronicles 36:14-17).  America is right on course with ancient Israel.  Throughout the history of Israel, there were always those people in the land who were call “the children of Belial,” meaning “worthless children.”  They were the grubby outcasts of society who existed by pilfering food etc.  They were the back alley muggers; living in the shadows; refusing honest labor, but ready to do anything dishonorable for a pittance.  Our prisons are filled with them today, those that have stolen televisions, appliances, tools, etc, only to support a drug habit or to get another bottle of liquor.  As aggravating as these are, they were not cause of Israel’s fall, nor will they be the cause of America’s.  It was when the “chief priests and the people” turned from the Lord God to follow the abominations of the heathen (note the text) that the anger of God was kindled.  The prophets were sent to the religious and to their priests.  They warned the people and their princes.  It was these who “mocked the messengers of God, and despised His words, and misused His prophets.”  The wrath of God arose against “His” people, “till there was no remedy.”

Why America?

Among all the nations of the ancient world, Israel was the only one that had any claim to be the “people of the Lord God.”  All other nations worshiped their demon gods, each nation with their own particular national god.  These idolatrous nations worshiped their gods in the most grotesque manner imaginable.  Some offered their babies or young virgins in human sacrifice.  Others worshiped with orgies at the altar of their gods.  Perversions and fornications were their manner of worship.  Why then would God pour His wrath upon Israel when, according to every human measure, they were so much better than those heathen nations?  The answer is simple.  Israel had known God.  God had chosen them in Abraham.  They would be a great nation through which He would redeem all nations.  God had promised Abraham, “…and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.”  God had revealed Himself to them as to no other.  He had given them His “secrets.”  The “adoption,” the “glory,” the “covenants,” and the “promises” of God all pertained to Israel (Romans 9:4).  They were the “apple of God’s eye” (Deuteronomy 32:10), even His “peculiar treasure, above all people” (Exodus 19:5).  There was no nation or power on earth that could conquer Israel while she served and pleased God.  It was when they forsook the Lord God and followed after the demon gods of the heathen that God’s anger came up against them.

In the modern world there has never been a nation like the United States of America.  We have known God and partaken of His blessings.  We have acknowledged in our foundational declaration that it is He who has given us the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”  I would be redundant to repeat in this message our “Godly heritage.”  Yet, for the past generation, America has been steadily moving away from God.  During that same time period, much of the church in America has believed it was having a time of great revival.  Well over thirty years ago, God visited this preacher with numerous visions and dreams of the spiritual apostasy that has come to the American church.  Most of the past thirty-five years of this ministry have been spent on radio, television, and through literature, warning the people of God.  During that same time period we have lost America.  We must understand that it is impossible to lose a nation whose people are seeking and worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ.  It is when we turn from His truth that a nation is lost.  It is the “apostasy” that brings the “fall.”  The “fall,” which is spiritual in nature, brings the righteous judgment of God, and the lack of repentance brings His wrath.

Weighed in the Balances

It was during the weeks after the year 2000 presidential election that I knew by the Spirit of God that America was being “weighed in the balances.”  At the end of that crucial time, God gave us George W. Bush to lead us during an even more critical time.  On the day of the inauguration the Lord spoke to my heart that we had three and a half years to affect America for Jesus Christ.  He said if America were not turned back to Him, the things to come would be too horrible to even speak of.  There is almost a year and a half remaining of that time period.  There is still a remedy for America if we will receive it, but the time of retribution is near.  I believe the duration of President Bush’s administration is time given us by God almighty to repent and to bring our nation back to Him.  The sad reality is this, much of the church and nation have already returned to sleep.

September 11, 2001 (9-11) was a “wakeup call” for our nation and her church.  On that day nineteen Islamic extremists (terrorists) successfully attacked our nation.  About three thousand people died in three different locations.  If the attack had been one hundred percent successful, they would have paralyzed America in one day.  Their goal was to hit over a dozen locations almost simultaneously.  The plane that was brought down in Pennsylvania would almost certainly have hit our Capital building with both houses of congress in session.  Our oil refineries would have been hit, as well as our nuclear power plants.  Almost a dozen strategic targets were carefully selected to bring down our pride, our wealth, and our military might.  It is believed that among the targets on that single day were the cities of Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Seattle, and San Francisco.  It was only by the mercy of God that other planes were delayed from take off and then quickly grounded at the news of the first attack.  Apart from that, America’s space for repentance may have ended on that day, September 11, 2001.

The dust and smoke from 9-11 had not cleared before we began to hear that this atrocity had been committed because the Islamic extremist “hated our lifestyle.”  A few preachers declared that it was an attack on the church; some said it was a conflict between “good and evil,” that we were attacked because we were so “good.”  Some even related it to being an attack against God.  In truth, it is the first scenario that is correct: they hate our lifestyle.  The remedy that has been given repeatedly since 9-11 goes something like this; “If we change our lifestyle,” they reason, “the terrorist have won.”  We are then exhorted, “Don’t change anything.  Continue as in times past.  Eat, drink, and be merry!  Go to the casinos!  It’s ‘party-time’.  Have yourself a party, but whatever you do, don’t let them change your lifestyle.”  I remember the words of a popular song of the seventies, “One day the party will be over.”  Whether America likes it or not, one way or the other, the “party” is over.  Our “lifestyle” will change, whether by repentance and Godly sorrow, or by the judgments of almighty God.

Why They Hate Us

It is easy to live in America and not understand why we are hated.  We love our nation.  Untold millions from every nation on earth dream of migrating to America, just to be a part of the “American dream.”  There is still opportunity in this country.  An honest, hardworking individual of any race can pick himself up and succeed if he will prepare himself and persevere.  In general our people are good people.  It is true that we do more for the poor and outcast around the world than any people.  We have arisen to the occasion repeatedly when there was a need anywhere in the world.  I am persuaded that America is the greatest nation on this planet, without even a close second.  Why then are we hated?  There are many reasons given why some nations might hate America, most of which are invalid, but I will deal specifically with why the fundamentalist Muslim hates us.

The fundamentalist Muslim is taught that America is “the great Satan.”  It is not because of our “goodness” that they hate us.  It is not because we are “holy.”  These people pride themselves that they “keep the Law of Moses,” even to the extreme.  Their original hatred for the Jew was that they had neglected the Law of Moses.  It was “idolatry,” the many images of the “saints” that were in the houses of worship that first brought the wrath of Mohammad against the “Christian” church.  To this day the Muslim keeps the dietary law, the clothing law, and the moral law of Moses, probably better than any people on earth.  Now, consider that the only picture they receive of America is the one Hollywood and the television industry sends them.  They find themselves in a struggle in their own lands against the “westernization” of their children.  Our sitcoms present a view of the average American family as perverted, immoral, lazy, and stupid.  The television “heroes” are in the bed of adultery several times in one episode.  Drugs, drunkenness and violence are depicted as the norm, and sadly, all these things have become “acceptable” lifestyles in our own nation.  It is the thing that entertains us that we ultimately become.  A full generation of this depiction of American life, exported to every nation under the sun by our own entertainment industry, and it is no wonder the Islamic fundamentalist sees America as a horrible place that must be destroyed.  Strangely, they hate the same thing about America that our God also hates.  It is no wonder that they are the perfect instruments of wrath to punish America for her sins.

America’s Sins

And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.  Revelation 9:20-21

There are five sins that have destroyed America and will bring the wrath of God against her if they are not repented of.  The first is idolatry, followed by murders, sorceries, fornication and theft.  These sins are listed in Revelation 9:20-21, immediately after the sounding of the sixth trumpet; after the four angels are loosened, and after the army of two hundred million strong have killed the third part of men.  These sins, however, were in place before the fifth and sixth trumpets, and are the reason these “judgments” were unleashed against the world.  The judgments of the sixth trumpet are soon to be loosed against the inhabitants of the earth.  They have not come yet, but they are near at hand.  The sins that will bring this awful judgment of God are in place however, and they are the sins of America and the western world.

Idolatry:  The doors of America have been thrown open to every god and religion known to man.  In the name of “pluralism, multi-culturalism, diversity, tolerance, etc.” we have become an idolatrous nation in this generation.  From the time the “Mayflower” landed in 1620 until this present generation, we were a monotheistic nation.  We were established on the “Judaeo-Christian tradition.”  We had one language and one people.  We were called the “melting pot” of nations, where people from every nation were “melded” into one.  Most importantly, we had one religion.  We were a Christian nation, a people who worshiped the God of the Bible, the creator of heaven and earth.  While it is true that there was a scattering of non-Christian/Jewish people in America, it was not until the beginning of this generation that our immigration laws were changed, opening the way for the diverse gods of every nation to enter America.  This generation has seen a virtual flood of immigration, bringing Allah, Buddha, Bahia, and the Hindu gods into America, until we have become perhaps the most idolatrous nation on earth.

Murders:  There have been murderers among us since Adam’s firstborn son, Cain, killed his brother, Abel.  Murder that is judged by the nations does not bring the wrath of God on the nations.  It is murder that is approved and sanctioned, even licensed by our nation that will bring the wrath of God.  I speak, of course, of abortion.  Certainly there have always been abortions performed among the people.  If caught they were charged with a crime and prosecuted as criminals.  Only in this generation have we, as a nation, approved of this “murder” of our citizens.  Abortion is considered to be a “sacred” right by about fifty percent of our people.  In our two party political system, one party has sold out for the preservation of abortion “rights” more than any other single issue.  Abortion has become the single “test” question for those nominated to federal judgeships in America.

Euthanasia is another battleground in America as large percentages of our people seek its legalization.  Actually, in practice it is already here.  I was shocked just recently when a lady in the local Conroe Hospital had all life-supports removed even while she was conscience and in her right mind.  In her case, she passed from this life within hours.  Even more shocking it is to learn that “life-supports” that can be removed include food and water.  If a person’s life becomes undesirable, simply starve them to death.  It is legal if it happens in a hospital.  Life must become precious in America once again.  Abortion must be criminalized, and euthanasia must be stopped.  They must be recognized to be what they truly are, and that is “murder.”  These things are bringing the wrath of God upon us, because we do know the judgment of God concerning these matters.

Sorceries:  In the Greek language of the New Testament, the word translated "sorceries" speaks of the use of drugs, or, of our drug culture.  In Galatians 5:20, the word translated “witchcraft” is from the same root.  These two words give an insight to God’s attitude toward drugs.  Yet, in this generation only, beginning in the sixties, we have permitted the minds of four generations of teenagers to be poisoned and destroyed by drugs.  While we have, as of yet, come short of legalizing drugs, yet our nations casual attitude toward them is an abomination to God.  These “sorceries” have been the number one reason for the destruction of the family in America, and why there are tens of millions of children in our nation without a daddy in the home.  How long will it be before we, as a nation, rise up to put an end to this abomination that is bringing the wrath of God against us?

Fornications:  This, from the Greek word, speaks of sexual sins, including filthy gestures, filthy body language, filthy spoken language, pornography, adultery, prostitution, and all manner of perversions such as sodomy, homosexual and lesbian acts, self manipulation, cross-dressing, pedophilia, etc.  These things have become a plague in America.  It is true that we have always had immorality of every sort, but it is only this generation in America that has legalized so many of these sins.  It is as God said in Romans 1:32, Americans not only do these things, but we, as a nation, are entertained by, and approve of these abominations.  We know the judgment of God against all such things.  We are not ignorant of His law.  It is in the name of our God given freedom that our nation has defended and approved of that which God would destroy.  We must remember the scripture in Romans 1:18, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.”  We know the judgment of God in these matters; we are without excuse.

Thefts:  Our American prisons are filled with the “fallout” of our permissive society.  Petty thefts, drugs, sexual promiscuity, violence, cultic practices; all these have destroyed our family structure, and filled our prisons to capacity.  Many of those who are serving time truly are “victims,” perhaps not as they think themselves to be, but they are victims of our “permissive” society.  All authority has broken down in America, because America has rejected the only source of authority.  Jesus made the proclamation just before ascending to the right hand of God, “All power (authority) in heaven and earth is given unto me.”  Paul tells us in Romans 13:1 that there is no authority but of God.  When authority (discipline) is exercised under God, the citizens are drawn to love, respect, and to obey the authority, whether it be the president, the local law enforcement, the schoolteacher, or the parent.  Whenever a “despot,” such as a Hitler or a Saddam Hussein, thinks to have authority within themselves, their authority is illegitimate, makes slaves of the people, and all obedience is because of the terror that holds the people captive.  If authority is from God, all rebellion is against God, and God Himself will reinforce the authority.  This order works in a nation to govern the people, and it will work in a family to govern the household.  Find in the scriptures who the proper authority under God is, and if that authority will submit themselves to God, the citizens, whether of the nation or of the home, will become of a “Godly” sort.

As with each of these five sins of America, the thieves who are incarcerated are not the ones bringing the wrath of God to our nation.  Our nation has dealt with these, and they are serving the time for their crime.  It is the “legal thefts” that abound in our society; the thieves who are openly and routinely robbing the citizens with the approval of national law; these are bringing God’s wrath upon us.  There are several categories of these thieves in America, thieves who have been created by the law of the land.  I will explain.

Liability laws:  In previous generations we had what we called “accidents.”  If someone walked down the sidewalk and fell and broke a leg, it was an accident.  The local doctor would set the bone and make the cast, the cost would be so reasonable that the average working man, earning about $20.00 per day in the nineteen-fifties, could pay for it, and the incident would pass into memory.  Today, in this generation only, the mindset is there is no such thing as an accident.  If someone falls, it must be someone else’s fault.  A crack in the sidewalk, a small limb fallen from a tree, perhaps a child’s toy in the walk.  Someone must pay, and they must be punished.  The one with the broken leg is rushed to the emergency room.  The “ambulance” trip will cost $500.00.  The emergency room will x-ray and sedate the patient and bill them $5000.00.  The bone specialist is probably the most reasonable of all, costing about $2000.00 for emergency and after care.  The anesthesiologist will charge $800.00 to deaden the leg or put the patient to sleep.  Then, if there are complications, the patient will be admitted to a semi-private room for the cost of something over $1000.00 per night.  Add a few hundred here and there for the doctor that orders the x-ray, again for the one that “reads” the x-ray, pay another $100.00 for the plastic pitcher and drinking cup in your room, pay for your pillow and sheets, and the average working man, earning about $100.00 per day will be billed ten to fifteen thousand dollars, over six months pay for a day and a night in the medical system.  If the patient has medical insurance, he feels fortunate, because he has been paying three to five hundred dollars a month out of his paycheck for the coverage.  If he has co-pay, the patient pays a percentage of the bill, which is usually more than the entire procedure should have cost.  If the patient has no insurance, he suddenly faces an insurmountable debt.  His credit is hurt.  If he pays the bill it will take him years to do so.

Now comes the accident lawyer.  He explains that it really wasn’t the patient’s fault that they fell and broke the leg.  Someone has got to pay.  Will it be the sidewalk contractor?  Or the city?  Maybe it should be the adjacent homeowner, or perhaps a local business that sold the toy a child left on the walk.  Who has the most liability insurance, the business or the parent?  Sue them all, the contractor, the city, the parent, and the business.  Not only must the real damages of medical and time loss be recovered, they must be “punished.”  Sue for punitive damages, a million or two million dollars.  If the leg doesn’t seem to heal right, sue the doctor and the hospital.  They must be punished.

Liability laws were not made for the people, they were made for accident lawyers.  Of the billions of dollars that are in the liability pool of America, from thirty to forty percent goes to lawyers.  Several years ago a legal firm filed a class-action suit against General Motors because of “faulty” fuel tanks on their pickup trucks.  The jury found against General Motors for many millions, probably billions of dollars.  I was contacted that I was a part of the suit because I had bought two of the trucks, and would receive a settlement.  When the settlement was worked out, all the “plaintiffs” (people like myself who had never complained) received their settlement.  It was a certificate for $1000.00 off on the purchase of a new GM or Chevrolet truck.  The law firm, on the other hand, received hundreds of millions of dollars up front.  This suit was never for the people; it was for the lawyers.  American corporations are ripped off for hundreds of billions of dollars a year through liability laws that were designed by lawyers, for lawyers.  It is legal theft.

Non-profit org. laws:  This is certainly a touchy subject because we are a non-profit organization.  Certainly the vast majority of churches and charities are ethical groups that are financially responsible.  There are, however, those in both churches and charities that Jesus called a “den of thieves.”  One of the most blatant examples of this was after 9-11 when the hearts of all Americans were broken for the families of the victims.  Billions of dollars were raised in the name of the victim’s families by well know national charities, some of which had no intention of using the money as designated.  One world renowned “Reverend” has enriched himself with hundreds of millions of dollars extorted from American corporations in the name of “civil rights” abuses.  If they do not pay up, he will demonstrate against them and call for boycotts of their products.  There has been no evidence given that any of the money received ever reaches the poor or the down trodden from this minister.  There have always been charlatan preachers who have abused their rights to receive offerings from the people, using gimmicks and deceit to raise millions of dollars to lavish upon their own lusts.  Today, however, they have become the “superstars” of religion, almost worshiped by the multitude.  Whatever happened to the followers of the “meek and lowly of heart” Jesus Christ?  Those He said were called, not to be ministered to (served), but to minister (serve), and to give their lives to reach the lost humanity?  Oh how America needs them in this hour.

The Medical system:  Something is grossly wrong in our medical system.  This is not to indict those dedicated men and women who have given their lives to relieve the suffering of the citizens.  These are worthy of our honor and praise.  There is however a gross disparity in the system, made and approved by the national law of our land that is an abomination.  I know a young man who was having gall bladder attacks.  He had endured several attacks with unbearable pain before he finally admitted himself to an emergency room.  I was with him as he lay on a cot for several hours, his entire body vibrating from the pain that was in his chest.  I had never seen anyone suffer such horrible pain as it tortured him for several hours.  The paramedics took his blood pressure, took blood for a blood test, and gave him a full body scan.  It was not until the results came back that they gave him pain medicine.  After five hours they told him that he needed his gall bladder taken out, that they could do it, but it would cost an additional $10,000.00.  Not having insurance to pay for the operation, he was released and told if he had another attack to go to the emergency room again.  When he received his bill for five hours on the emergency room cot, it was for over $5000.00.

A woman finds that she is pregnant.  She decides she doesn’t want the baby, so she checks into the local “abortion clinic.”  She will be in the clinic for about five hours, she will receive a dangerous and very intrusive procedure, and the cost will be only $375.00, the publicly advertised price.  Something is terrible wrong.  In America you can legally murder your baby in a medical clinic for a small fee, or, you can lie on an emergency room cot for the same period of time and it will cost you fifteen times as much to receive nothing.  It declares that our nation is more interested in murdering babies than it is the health of its citizens.  God almighty has weighed us in the balances, and we are found wanting.  America, we must repent, and turn from our wicked ways while there is still a remedy.  The day of God’s wrath is at our door.

Prosecution and Verdict

This message began in the first chapter of Romans where Israel was “indicted” for their sins in the “judgment of the world” that took place just before Jesus died on the cross at Calvary.  The indictment was successful, and Israel was “prosecuted” in the second chapter.  The first nine verses of the third chapter contain five questions that must be answered in the judgment of any nation.  If it is found in the first question (verses 1-2) that the nation had the “advantage” of knowing God and His blessings, then the judgment of God hangs on the fifth question (9th verse).  If the nation is found to be no better than the heathen nations who know not God, then a “guilty” verdict must be reached.  Both Israel (then) and America (now) have had every advantage, but neither, upon examination in God’s judgment, is any better for the advantage.  Romans 3:10-18 brings the “finding of the court” against the nation on trial.  “There is none righteous, no, not one:  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.  They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.  Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:  Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:  Their feet are swift to shed blood:  Destruction and misery are in their ways:  And the way of peace have they not known:  There is no fear of God before their eyes” (Rom 3:10-18).  This was the finding against Israel in that day, but O, how it condemns America in this day.  There are, however, a very few “righteous,” a precious “seed of God” remaining in America, as was Jesus and His one hundred, twenty in that day.

The verdict is brought in the nineteenth verse.  It was the “advantage” they had received from God that condemned them in the end; it was the oracles, the word of God that was spoken to them.  The verdict?  “All the world” was guilty before God.  Nothing remained but the “curse” that was promised in Malachi 4:5-6,  “And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.”

The Sentence and the Remedy

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Romans 6:23

The cry of Jesus in Gethsemane awaits the final decision of His Father. The entire world, both Jew and Gentile, has been “proven” to be under sin (Romans 3:9).  They have been found guilty and the sentence is death.  The only decision remaining is whether God will “curse” them, or “redeem” them.  The curse must be spent, for it was God Himself who spoke it through Malachi.  There are other promises however, promises of redemption, spoken by all the prophets.  There is a dilemma; God is bound by His own word, He must redeem, and He must curse, and He must do it immediately.  Now hear the wisdom and the Justice of God.  “Wherefore, as by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin………. so by the obedience of one (Jesus Christ) shall many be made righteous” (Romans 5:12-19).  Now see the love of God.  “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son…” (John 3:16)  The Son, Jesus Christ, will die for the sin of the whole world.  The curse will be spent on Him (Galatians 3:13).  All who believe upon Him will die to sin and live unto God (Romans 6:6-11).  Israel and the Jews who rejected Jesus suffered the wrath of God before their generation had passed.  Their holy city Jerusalem and their Temple were totally destroyed with great loss of life in 70 AD, just as Jesus had warned (Luke 19:41-44).

America’s remedy is in the savior, Jesus Christ, who died for us.  The sentence upon every man is death because of sin.  We, as individuals, are sentenced to be “crucified” with Christ, and so “live” with Christ, or, to perish in eternal damnation.  As a nation we must put away our sin and bring God and His Son back into our national life.  God is merciful, but if America does not drastically change and quickly bow before almighty God, as with Jerusalem of old, she will not survive this generation.  O people of God!  Let us weep between the porch and the altar (Joel 2:17) for America.  Only the children of God can win this victory, and it must be won at the altar of God.
